Job Description

As the Backend Developer your duties will be to: 
  • Manage and allocate your direct reports to individual agile product teams, responding to senior stakeholders up to ‘C’ level, so that the maximum possible business benefit is delivered.
  • Be accountable for the line management, motivation and performance of around 10-15 engineers deployed in several cross functional agile product development teams.
  • Undertake the evaluation and management of individuals work to ensure code is consistently developed in line with the company’s methods and design standards, and architectural and security guidelines at an acceptable productivity level.
  • Ensure that developers work effectively as expert contributors cooperating with team members with different areas of expertise in cross functional teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities e.g. lobbying for and implementing process and tools changes such as the automation of development and control practices.
 To be a successful Backend Developer you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Previously worked in a Full-Stack/Backend role.
  • Proven track record in the following technologies:
    • Java (v6+) to include AspectJ & Maven, Spring Framework (v4+) to include AOP, Boot, Cloud, JDBC, MVC, Security. Relational databases to include PostgreSQL & Oracle. Message brokers to include ActiveMQ & RabbitMQ.
    • Continuous Integration with Bamboo & Jenkins, Test-Driven Development with Junit, Behaviour-Driven Development with Cucumber, Agile Software Development including Extreme Programming, Kanban & Scrum.
    • A rock-solid understanding of OAUTH, REST and SOLID software engineering principles plus any real-world application of using 12-Factor App methodology is desirable.
    • Candidates with any of the following skills will be strongly preferred: Amazon Web Services, Docker, Kubernetes, Hazelcast, Hystrix, OpenShift, Redis, Zuul.
    • An interest in technology, mobile and wider popular culture trends.
 In return the Backend Developer will receive a salary of £83,000 per annum basic + 15% bonus + benefits.
