Job Description

Linux Systems Administrator - Up to £50k - Full Time / Permanent

We are looking for an engineer to join the System Operation team of a digital marketing company based in Brighton. The role has a focus on Infrastructure scalability, security, configuration management and MySQL database administration.

You be responsible for ensuring that the platform is both adequately resourced and utilized effectively. Security considerations and improvements will be part of your work flow and decision making by default when building and improving our systems.

Working within a team of system administrators you will be expected to help maintain our existing estate from both a Linux and MySQL perspective. You will be given autonomy to research, recommend and implement solutions that solve the challenges that supporting a large scale infrastructure create.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced systems administrator to further their skills and progress their career by moving beyond day-to-day administration into owning and driving improvement within the platform.

Key responsibilities:

+ Backend support of the LAMP stack

+ Investigating and resolving last-line support issues

+ Working with the development teams where necessary to identify and squash bugs

+ Investigating trends in monitoring data to identify potential bottlenecks

+ Maintaining and improving the software deployment and configuration system

+ Out of hours on-call (1 week per month)

+ Database administration

+ Improving security of the platform

Essential Skills:

+ Highly self motivated, can-do attitude

+ Positive, inclusive and proactive teamwork skills

+ Linux (Ideally RHEL and Ubuntu)

+ Webserver support and configuration (Apache Httpd & Nginx)

+ Database administration (Ideally MySQL and Galera)

+ AWS EC2

+ Bash

+ Experience with configuration management systems (Ideally Ansible)

+ Ownership and responsibility in projects

+ Managing multiple work streams incorporating excellent personal project and time management skills.

+ Great communication abilities on multiple levels (i.e. technical, business & customer contexts)

+ Ability to work independently taking responsibility for the task at hand

+ Providing input on decisions around solutions and direction whilst considering other views and compromising when appropriate.

+ A strong work ethic (whilst making time to have fun at the end of the day)
